Chapter 5 - The Capture of the Third Prince's Army

Saraband

     Medion's force returns to Saraband again, although now it is docked near Headland. Honesty arrives at last and informs them of her findings. Medion agrees to go out into Saraband and explore the city.

     Although the smithy in Saraband won't make the best mithril weapons for you it's worth getting one or two (if you have the money) to strengthen your characters as there is an abundance of Large Mithril in the game, much of which will go unused if you save them all for the last chapter.

     On top of the roof of the bar is Arthur, the magic knight. Talk to him and he will join your force!

     In the east district of Saraband, talk to the flower lady and answer yes to her question, she will give you the bunch of flowers which you will need later on to get this chapter's ruins map.

     When you try to leave the east district of Saraband (where Synbios started in scenario 1), Honesty and Syntesis will chase after Medion. Medion's force has all been captured except for them and so Medion and Syntesis must rescue them. If you got Arthur, he will also be part of the rescue force. If you didn't give Medion the key to the secret path then Syntesis will be carrying the key. Go to the spot where General Crewart entered Garvin's mansion in chapter 1 and use the key on the piece of wall he used (it's the piece of wall under the western-most porthole window) and enter the secret path.

     You must find the prison cells in Garvin's mansion, there is a Saraband guard who will walk to the correct staircases, so you know which ones to take. The directions to the cell from the entrance, and various treasures are these (point the camera north by pressing the Y button first):

South, East, South, East, South ---> 1st Floor; South, West, North, East. From here you can go two ways; follow the east path around and you will find a staircase leading to the room with 4 treasure chests in it (once you leave this room you will automatically by caught). But to proceed further, head west at this crossroads (the first pillar you pass has the Small Mithril hidden in it). From here, head North, East (past the double doors, the next pillar you pass hides the Large Mithril), South, West ---> Prison cell.

     The Saraband soldier in the middle of the room holds the prison key, kill him and take the key. Give the key to someon with a high movement value (i.e. not Syntesis) and open the cells closest to the table first. Once a character has been freed, make them inspect the table to recover their equipment. Get as many of your characters out of their cells as possible before the reinforcing Saraband Soldiers reach you, and make a stand in the middle of the room. Before the end of the battle, destroy all the barrels infront of the north-western door so you can get access to the that room afterwards.

     With Medion's force saved, they can now find the Emperor, whom Rogan has informed them is in Saraband. The only way to Garvin's mansion is through the courtyard however, where enemies will surely be waiting.

     The first part of this battle is straightforward, just kill all the guards before entering into Garvin's main building. Move all your force inside on the same turn. There aren't many enemies in the second map so take them out at your leisure (be careful around the Spark 2 using monk though). Around Dessheren, remember not to isolate your characters as her Phoenix spell can kill in one hit if cast on a single member of your force.

End of Battle

     Dessheren is defeated but Yasha arrives and takes her away to be healed. Domaric tells Medion to prepare his army to move on Aspia, and the young prince has no choice but to comply. Without The Seagate they can't travel by sea and must go through Headland and Swampland. While Medion prepares his force, Domaric writes a letter for Honesty to take to Mageron...

     Before you leave Saraband, on of either Jade or Garosh will be waiting at the gates of the city, depending on your actions in scenario 1 (if you are continuting from scenario 1 data). If you saved Garosh in battle #2 of scenario 1 then he will be there, but if you he died them it will be Jade who is there. If you aren't continuing from scenario 1 data, then Jade will be the one waiting there. One of them will join Medion's, but there is no way to make them both join.

     Zero returns before the battle and if you got the Ship's Key in scenario 1, he will bring Rogan with him (otherwise Rogan drowns in the wreckage of The Executor). You must keep Emperor Domaric alive in this, and the next few battles he participates in as you will lose if he dies. The boss in this battle will be different depending on your actions in scenario 1; if you save Garosh then Jade will be the boss, but if Garosh died then the boss will be the Hill Giant (this will also be the boss if you are playing without any scenario 1 data). Keep the enemy separated and use the sand to your advantage to slow them down.

     In Iro you can get Penko to join Medion's force, to do this you must first have taken the chicken from Linside Village. If you have the chicken, then take the three pigs from the garden (by inspecting them with the C button) and lead them over the bridge where they will dig up Penko's egg. Take the egg and use it on the chicken in the HQ and Penko will join the force!

     Advance your force, taking out any enemies that get in your way. Dakka proves to be of little trouble as he usually dives right into the middle of your force, proceeding to his slaughter (what a silly old man). When going into the ruins, don't send too many characters in as Domaric won't wait for them to come out again and will charge off on his own (most likely to die, the silly old man), so keep some characters behind to defend him. You'll need only the characters with the highest movements in the ruins anyway.

Thief Map #5

     Cyos is pretty much isolated, save for the two Brass Loaders, so defeat him at your leisure (and then laugh at him, because he's a silly old man too).

End of Battle

     Once Cyos is brought to within an inch of his life he runs from the combat scene, but Yasha appears and finishes off the Lord of Swampland. Medion's force with Emperor Domaric now press onwards into Swampland.

Chapter Summary

     While succeeding in the rescue of the Emperor and foiling Garvin’s attempts to capture them, the Medion army could do nothing as Garvin fled to the Seagate with Arrawnt and his army. They were forced to take the overland route. Even though they moved as quickly as they could, they were intercepted by Lord Cyos of Swampland and Lord Dakka of Headland, two men who greatly desired the overthrow of Emperor Domaric. A severe battle ensued. Prince Medion took the victory in the battle in the caves, but resented Emperor Domaric’s treatment of the surviving Lord and his family. The rift between the two became ever wider.
