Chapter 3 - The Road of Pilgrimage
|
Medion's force come across Stump village which appears to be completely deserted. There, in the middle of the night, they have an unpleasant meeting with Goriate, high priest of Bulzome. He says that he is looking for Gracia, the descendant of the Innovators. Medion's army aren't sure whether to believe Gracia is descended from Innovators, but whatever he is his life could be in danger in Bulzome finds him. Medion's force stay the night in one of the village houses but when dawn breaks, the town is full of people!

Note: To get the Hope Light, in one of the treetop houses there is a purple coloured stone, push it into the corner and fall down the hole. Go outside then climb down the rope ladder to get to the treasure chest.

To get to the rest of Stump village, clumb the rope ladders that hang from the trees. Once you've finished the town, climb to the highest tree, enter the western door and head for the steps in the big room. You'll hear a scream (or at least read one) and David will come out of his room, recognising Hedoba's voice. David teams up with Medion's force to rescue Hedoba. Before you do this though, I recommend buying a spear and giving it to Medion or Campbel so that they can give it to David to equip at the start of the battle, as the spear is David's best weapon. After the battle, you should take the white ring from David's room and give it to him, boosting his meagre defense by 10.

Move Medion, Campbell and David to the door in the east, killing the monsters on the way. Once they move to the second map, Grantack will return with the rest of Medion's force. Move both groups of characters quickly along the walkways and return back to the first map all at once. When close to the boss, draw away most of the enemies first so you can surround the boss and kill it with ease.
End of Battle
The defeated wolf baron reveals that Hedoba is in the hands of Dessheren and Fiale and that his force was just a decoy. In order to save Hedoba (who knows of Gracia's location), Medion's force go to the treetops ahead, where the Bulzome sect will be. Before the battle, you can restock on items and take the two hidden items from David's room.

To get Hedoba to join your force, you must keep her alive during the battle. If she is alive at the end of the battle then she will join you. Use dispell from the Bronze Rod you can buy in Stump Village to stop her from freezing your party, or wait until she's run out of MP, then she will only be able to use physical attacks (until dispell wears off) which are very weak. Be very careful around the boss as he and the other masked monks are quite powerful. Although the structure of the walkway infront of the boss makes it hard not to bunch your characters together, make sure you don't bunch them up as the boss' spark spell, coupled with the succubus' blaze 2, will make mincemeat of your force. If you want to make this battle easier, try promotiong all your force here.
End of Battle
After the battle, Dessheren returns and boasts of her power, she stands in the way and threatens to kill all of Medion's force. But suddenly Galm appears and confronts the priestess. He tells her to leave and it seems he is opposed to Bulzome's revival. Dessheren flees and Galm tells Medion's force they will be heading to Elbesem to take the staff of besem, which is the only weapon Bulzome fears. Galm disappears and Medion's force agrees to make a diversion to Elbesem once they reach Barrand. If Hedoba was kept alive, then she will now join Medion's force.

The battle is straightforward, advance your force towards Barrand, killing the monsters on the way. Some extra monsters will appear during the battle but they are not much to worry about. When you get about halfway across the map, Julian will emerge from the river after being swept downstream. He will join Medion's party whether you say yes or no to his offer. If you're continuing from scenario 1, Julian's starting stats will be the same as they were when he left Synbios' army and he will be carrying all the items he had with him. Otherwise, his starting stats are:

End of Battle
The ship that was in Barrand departs just before Medion's force reaches the town, but although it wasn't Rogan's ship, the Seagate appears to be missing too. David suggests they head into Barrand to investigate and then cross the road to the holy land at low tide.
Barrand
On arrival in Barrand, Medion discovers that Rogan has left the town. He is about to leave to go to the holy road when the soldiers at the gates tell him that Rogan has forbidden anyone to go to the holy road as it is dangerous. They won't let Medion out of town! As it happens though, a rumour involving Tybalt's escape from Barrand when it was occupied by Imperial forces suggests that there is a hidden path somewhere in the general's pavilion.

Once you're finished exploring the town, go to the general's pavilion and head down to the jail in the basement. Walk to the end of the jail and the group will start talking among themselves, which wakes Donhort. Medion's force tries to pursuade Donhort to help them but he pretends not to know a thing. When they mention that they want to help Gracia, Donhort agrees to show them the secret path and to accompany them. Take the prison key from the table and use it to unlock Donhort's cell. He opens the secret path for Medion and they escape Barrand together. From here on, Donhort fights alongside Medion's force as an uncontrolable character, and he can be quite pesky. Save the brave apple from the jail for Zero when he returns in battle #15.

Although this is a simple battle, it takes a long time to complete due to the sand, which will slow your characters down. The ruins will open as soon as one of your characters steps on the grass or sand infront of it (if you have the map) so you must position the characters you want to send in as close as you can (try saving the game and finding out which bits of the ground trigger the thieves, then reset and load up the save again) before triggering the thieves.

As you advance forward, more of the pathway will open up as the tide goes further out and the octopus' tentacles will also pop out of the water. Zero arrives and warns them of the strange being ahead. Zero once again joins Medion's force and his stats will be the same as when he left you before. Be careful around the tentacles and kill them if they attack your force. Once the first five tentacles have been killed, the octopus appears. You must use the orb of elbesem's special attack on it to destroy its dark shield of protection. Zero is carrying the orb but he must equip if first before he can use it. The arm tentacles have a greater reach than the leg tentacles and the octopus can attack at a great range so get your force to it as quickly as possible. Only five characters can attack the octopus at one time (1 normal attack, 3 ranged attacks and Zero) unless you have an attack with a range of 2~3 (which you won't unless you've trained your characters alot and have aquired a magic spell with that sort of range), so use your strongest characters when attacking it.
End of Battle
After the octopus is defeated, Zero warns Medion that the Guardian Statue's destruction and the growth of the Bulzome sect's powers is what has allowed these sorts of monsters to roam the land. With the Bulzome sect's next target likely to be Elbesem, Medion's army quickly presses forward to Elbesem village.
Chapter Summary
Discovering the crisis of the holy child Gracia from the people of Stump village, the Medion army hastened even more towards Barrand.... only to reach there and find that General Rogan had already set sail. The holy sanctuary of Elbesem, finding its hopes of aid from General Rogan dashed, had to rely on the power of Medion and his friends to defend them from the Bulzome cult’s invasion. The Medion army hurried to confront the Bulzome cult... but by that time the Bulzome regiment had already reached the northern shrine, and a huge battle ensued for the biggest prize of all, Gracia.
