Chapter 2 - The Plans of Traitors
|
Before reaching Anafect, Medion's force find many dead soldiers of General Spiriel's and General Garzel's armies, there is even a Bulzome monk and a Republican soldier. There is a survivor of Spiriel's army however, who tells them that Spiriel has been put under a curse by Bulzome high priestess Basanda. Medion's force enter Anafect village to gather information about this battle and what happened before finding a boat and making their way to Barrand.

Go to the Inn and exit via the back door, Medion will see some soldiers of Produn's army discussing the battle they were recently engaged in. It seems that Produn also wants to borrow a ship from Anafect. If Produn takes the only ship capable of sailing to Barrand then Medion's army will be unable to progress further. Therefore, they must meet with the village chief as soon as possible!

Items
When your force reaches certain points on the map, the cannon on the ship will shoot at the platforms, destroying them and blocking your route to Produn. You can get Campbell to Produn before the platform to Produn's south is destroyed by compromising his high movement value, however you can't attack Produn. Produn doesn't fight in this battle, when you've destroyed most of his army, Stella will force him onto the boat and replace him in battle. You can kill Stella or you can talk to her once all the Produn army has been destroyed, answer yes to both of Grantack's questions if you want to spare Stella and end combat. If you kill Stella then Edmund will join Julian's force in scenario 3, but if you spare Stella you can get Produn to join Julian's team (however, then Edmund won't join and will become a boss in scenario 3). In my opinion, Produn is a better character than Edmund so the best route to take is to spare Stella and get Produn to join in scenario 3. However, the choice is up to you.
End of Battle
Depending on your course of action in battle, Produn will either sail off with Stella, promising to repay him one day for his kindness (even though Medion just slaughtered his army), or he will sail away alone, swearing to get his revenge. But with the boat gone, Medion's army has no way to get to Barrand. Fortunately, the village chief tells them of a secret pathway to Barrand at the waterfall ahead. Inspecting the rock near the waterfall will take them to a secret pathway, leading back to Barrand. The village chief tells Medion this on the understanding that Medion doesn't tell anyone about it. Honouring the man's trust, Medion promises to keep the hidden path a secret and leaves Anafect for Barrand!
When Medion's force emerges from Anafect, Zero meets them and tells them that Synbios and Benetram sent him to warn Medion that he might be in danger from Imperial soldiers due to his impartiality. Zero joins Medion's force for the time-being and Medion presses on towards Barrand.

Move swiftly northwards so that you can attack the boss from the west. The three birdmen will fly over the mountain and ambush you but they will be easy pickings for you archers so lure them out of their hiding place and shoot them down. Send two or three characters to kill the knight, mage and priest infront of the boss so there are less soldiers to protect him when you attack the boss himself.
End of Battle
With the Imperial soldiers defeated, Medion's force can open the entrance to the secret cave. Inside, they see Hazuki and her father fall into the cave from the water above. Hazuki saves herself from the fall but her father falls off the ledge. Zero flies down to save him, but Hazuki is attacked by monsters and cannot help. Medion's force must try to save Hazuki as well as defeat the monsters to pass through the cave.

Zero leaves the force for this battle as he has flown down to save Hazuki's father. To save Hazuki, you must talk to her and she will then join your force. Move you force around the highest ground, close to the cave walls because if you descend, there is only one route back to the top again. Send your force after Hazuki and get her to join the force but keep a few characters behind to kill the scaven and worms that spawn behind your party.
Once Hazuki joins the force or is killed, a succubus and two worms will appear at the bottom of the cave. The succubus is the boss, so you have to kill her. Be wary of her charm attack though, so keep some fairy powders handy to cure anyone who gets charmed.

End of Battle
After the battle, Zero returns with Hazuki's father who tells them that he and Hazuki were under orders to kill Yasha. He dies though from his injuries and Hazuki decides to come with Medion from this point on.
As they come out of the cave though, Medion's force notices that it is the middle of the night. Fortunately there is a village just ahead where they stay until morning.

Before leaving Lineside, use the chicken feed from the Republic HQ on the chicken that's sitting still in the pen. The chicken will now follow Medion so take it back to the HQ where it will stay for the rest of the game.

The monsters here are fairly weak and should be no problem for your force. The only thing to watch out for should be the worms that spawn as you make your way across the map. Most of them appear towards the end of the map but two spawn on the middle island, where two goblins and a skaven start.
As always, send your fastest characters into the ruins and stop the thieves from taking the treasure.
Thief Map #2
End of Battle
Medion's army proceeds towards the suspension bridge and notices a trap has been set for Synbios by the Garzel army and the traitor, Edmund. In order to help Synbios, Medion attacks Edmund's camp to wipe out his ambush troops.

Move your force down either side of the map, if you feel strong enough then split your force into two and go down both sides of the map. Be careful around the the mages and don't let them hit more than one target with their Freeze 2 spell. Don't be caught off guard by the Edmund soldiers that jump out after the soldiers infront of the wagons on the western side are killed. The soldiers will jump out of the eastern wagons when you reach the ground with the priest. Make sure these ambushers don't get to attack as soon as they arrive by killing the last enemy infront of the western wagons, or moving down to ground in the infront of the eastern wagons with a character who has an agility less then 10. Be careful when attacking the boss, take out the magic users first, then isolate him and put all your power into killing him.
End of Battle
Medion and Synbios meet up again at the suspension bridge and Zero is returned to Synbios. Benetram tells Medion's force about the destruction of the guardian statue by the Bulzome Sect before the two forces part once more. After being side-tracked for so long, Medion's force heads to the town of Barrand where they hope to find General Rogan.
Chapter Summary
The cowardly plan by the Imperial General Garzel and Republican General Edmund to try and kill the Republican King Benetram were sucessfully prevented by the cooperation of the Medion and Synbios army. Praying for the safety of the Synbios army returning to Aspinia, the Medion army head towards Barrand where General Rogan awaits them. But between them and Barrand lay a forest, the ‘sea of trees’ in the centre of Barrand which was their only path to the south. Evil manoeuvres had been taking place there, and a dark figure stood waiting to confront them.
