Shining Force III Walkthrough - Scenario 2 -
Chapter 1 - Journey of the Third Prince

     Scenario 2 starts at the Saraband cargo area, where Medion's group is. Medion is miserable as he hasn't seen his mother, whom his is very close with, for some time. Campbell tries to cheer the young prince up but to no avail. While Syntesis, Uryudo and Grantack watch with concern they notice a group of suspicious masked monks hiding amongst the cargo. Without warning, the masked monks attack Medion's group.

     Simple battle, use Medion + Campbell to take care of the Monks and Syntesis + Uryudo to kill the bats. The treasure chest can be opened after the battle if you don't want to open it during combat but the items in the barrels can't be retrieved later. The monk at the very top won't fight you and you can't reach him so he can't be killed.

     The monk's actions are suspicious and he could be involved with a plot against the success of the peace conference. Medion's force breaks into two, Syntesis and Uryudo leave to search ahead while Medion, Campbell and Grantack search elsewhere.

Saraband Imperial District

     Once you're done exploring, head to where the Destonian soldiers are standing. A scene unfolds which should be familiar to you if you've played scenario 1. Synbios has run into trouble in the Imperial district but Medion and his friends arrive to save him from a sticky situation. After the explosions, the two groups part and Medion heads back to the Imperial camp.

     Meanwhile, Syntesis and Uryudo are finishing their search and are about to return to the HQ when they see general Crewart meeting with a suspicious looking person, it is Bulzome high priest Fiale. They discuss the plot to fake Benetram's kidnapping of the Emperor and then Crewart enters Garvin's mansion through a secret pathway. Syntesis and Uryudo follow them.

     In the Imperial camp, Medion reports to his brothers about the masked monk's involvement in the bombing, but not everyone is willing to listen to his story and some, such as Garzel, point the blame at the Republic. During the conversation, Crewart brings the news that Benetram has kidnapped Emperor Domaric. The Imperial generals are deployed to chase the Republicans and warfare spreads quickly across the area.

     Medion is ordered to search for the 'criminal' Synbios and bring him to justice, and thus he prepares to leave Saraband.

     Once you've finished exploring Saraband, exit over the bridge. Syntesis and Uryudo will rejoin the force and you can now leave Saraband to look for Synbios.

     First, move north and kill the three masked monks behind Basanda. Basanda will leave at the beginning of turn 3 and Fiale will leave when the boat arrives. Slowly draw out the soldiers so that you don't have to attack them all at once, otherwise they will outnumber you and you might lose some characters. Save some healing magic for when you fight the boss.

     The leader of the Crewart battalion reveals that Synbios went through Balsamo but escaped from the town. Medion's army goes into the village to make some interrogations and find out where Synbios has gone.

     Before going to Duncan's house, head for the HQ in the south-east. Use an antidote herb on Walz to cure her and she will join Medion's force. Then talk to Rock who will also join Medion's force, but only if you cured Walz first.

     Go to the house where there was an explosion, where Medion overhears Duncan and Toby talking about Synbios. Duncan mentions that they will be passing through Dwarf Valley and Grantack makes the connection that they must be headed for Railhead. Medion's force leaves Balsamo in pursuit of Synbios...

     Attack the two groups of Crewart soldiers separately and kill them before the Saraband knights reach you. Luckily, the Saraband knights split into three groups which makes defeating them much easier. After a while, bandits will jump out of Dusty village and head out across the two countries to raid ruins in this time of war. Following them, Bulzome monks appear outside Dusty village with the intent of fighting Medion. Save some healing magic for the confrontation with the monks as they hide behind difficult terrain and three out of the four posses magic. The boss' Freeze 2 spell is lethal especially if it hits more than one of your characters so don't bunch them together.

     Before fighting the monks however, inspect the ruins (if you have the map) and stop the thieves from taking the treasure. Once you inspect the ruins, two bats will appear over the hills.

     With the end of the battle, dusk is swiftly onsetting and Medion's force decide to stay overnight in Dusty village, dangerous as it may be. The force head into Dusty village with a sense of caution...

     When exploring the village, Medion's force notices Basanda has been staying with Shiraf. They decide to investigate further and go to the roof of the bar where they see Shiraf leaving the village to pursue Synbios' force! Once Shiraf has left the village, you can enter his mansion and get the battle bracer and 100 gold coins within.

     If you rescued Bernard in scenario 1, leave the rooftop then go back out on it again and he will be waiting there, talk to him and he will join the force.

     This is a fairly simple battle, advance your force up the mountain path, killing the enemies as you go along. The enemy sends snipers down the sides of the map so don't be caught off guard by them.

     With the mountain path clear, Medion's force head for the switching point. They spot refugees, whom the border guards will surely slaughter and they notice that Republican General Varlant has no compassion for these defectors either. Synbios appears and he agrees to join forces with Medion to save the refugees. As Medion does not want to fight Imperial soldiers, his force confronts General Varlant while Synbios protects the refugees from the border guards.

     Advance your force carefully and kill the enemy in groups so that they don't overpower you. Kill all the frontal troops before moving on to Varlant and the soldiers who surround him. Varlant is strong against Medion and has the Dominion Ray attack which can put you under an illusion if it hits. Keep Medion's HP high when attacking Varlant so that there's no chance Medion will be killed, or you could just keep Medion away from Varlant altogether. Keep Uryudo safe too as he is your only source of healing magic.

End of Battle

     Synbios' and Medion's forces meet for the first time after the failure of the peace conference and Benetram proves to the Medion army that he is innocent. He also tells them of his imposter and about the Bulzome sect, whom Medion has also run into on occaisions beforehand. With Benetram's information, Medion's army need a ship to chase after the Bulzome monks who took Domaric away by sea, and thus they prepare to head for Barrand where they can meet with General Rogan. In order to get to Barrand though, Medion's army intends to borrow a small ship from Anafect village on the eastern side of the continent.

Chapter summary

     The kidnapping of the Emperor at the peace conference in Saraband resulted in a war developing between the Republic and the Empire, which marked the beginning of Prince Medion’s journey. After most of Medion’s troops were confiscated and sent to the front lines, the remainder of his army was sent after the Synbios army, who were suspected of the kidnapping. They met them once again, soon realising that they were innocent. However, in order to recapture the Emperor, Medion needed to enlist the help of General Rogan, and this began his travels toward the village of Anafect on the way to Barrand.
