Dantares - Tactics

General Tactics

Dantares is by far the strongest character you start scenario 1 with, he has a great attack value, high agility and a massive movement statistic of 7. Although it may be tempting, don't charge Dantares off on his own in a killing spree, separating him from the rest of the force, as he will likely become outnumbered and his moderately bad defence will see him to an early grave. However, when you get faster characters later, use Dantares to lead a small group of characters ahead as some sort of pre-strike on the enemy, then retreat them and let the slower characters finish the weakened enemy off.

Magic and Magic Resistance

Dantares is one of those unlucky characters who knows squat about how to cast a spell.

Like many of his non-magic using chums, Dantares' magic resistance isn't all that much to write home about, however his fire and light resistance (once promoted) is quite decent. When sending him to attack a group of magic-using enemies, cast a resist spell on him.

Weapons and Equipment

Halberds or lances are Dantares' best choice of weapon, with the spear as an option to give Dantares a ranged attack. The basic halberds (i.e. those not made by mithril) are slightly stronger than the lances however, the mithril and hidden lances are the strongest weapons that Dantares can equip. If you want Dantares to just pummel into the enemy regardless, use lances but if you prefer to keep your options open use the Halberds. The reason being is that the Ark Halberd is an extremely effective weapon, not because it boosts attack by lots - although it does - but because it can be used to cast Spark 3 - this gives Dantares a massive range. However, if you really want Dantares to be a killing machine, train him up to level 3 with all his weapons and carry two, or more Ark Halberds with him (just in case one breaks) so that he can strike at range with Spark 3 or the spear and then charge in close for lots of damage using the lance.
