Chapter 3 - Target: Guardian Statue of Elbesem

Quonus at night
Items and gold
30 gold coins: | Inspect the shelf in the store |
Brave apple: | In a crate in the house opposite the store |
On arrival at Quonus village, Synbios' force discovers that it is a ghost town, completely empty and devoid of life, moreover, there is an evil presence. Julian appears to be missing as well. Benetram duly sends Synbios and Grace to look around the village and find out what is amiss. Head towards the bridge and over to the graveyard, on the way you'll be able to find the brave apple in a crate in the house opposite the deserted store. Use it to level up one of yor weaker characters.
When you try to enter the mansion, Grace will stop you and tell Synbios to head back to the HQ. However, when they try to leave the graveyard, Kahn appears. He informs them that he is an Elbesem monk and then Julian arrives too. Julian had been following Kahn for some time and now the two have finally met up. During the conversation, Julian tells them that a Vandal resides over Quonus who Julian intends to fight. All of a sudden a group of Kyon-shi come out of the mansion to attack the force in the graveyard. They are really the villagers under a spell however, not real monsters!

In this battle you must not kill any of the Kyon-shi if you want to recruit Noon, a wizard, to your force. Instead, let Kahn perform his treasure orb attack on the enemy, to seal their magic. Kahn will follow Synbios around so you must move him to the Kyon-shi to get Kahn to perform his special attack on them. First move Synbios north to reach the Kyon-shi next to the western fence, once his magic has been sealed then move Synbios and your force counter-clockwise around the lake to get to the rest of the Kyon-shi. When you get close to the graves, monsters will jump out of them and attack you, kill them with your force as they aren't villagers. The Lich will jump out of the grave next to the lake, closest to the mansion. Be careful, as his tornado level 3 spell will greatly damage your force if they are all bunched together. He is and undead and flies and is therfore susceptible to archers as well as anyone carrying an ankh or wand.
End of Battle
After the battle, Kahn and Julian resolve to go into the mansion and kill the Vandal. Synbios offers his support also and Kahn joins the force.

Items
Healing Drop: | In the barrel in the corner |
Dark Matter: | Inspect the ground where the Vandal starts from |
The enemies in this level are strong and can cause your force problems. A good idea is to train up your force on this level and promote them, boosting their stats. If you want to promote them later though, just try to have your force all at level 10. Further enemies spawn out of the holes in the ground, to the left of the table there are two vampire bats and a lich, and to the right there are two vampire bats. Furthermore at the top of the stairs two skeletons and a lich will appear, and out of the holes on the first floor, two more liches. Destroy the barrels in the corner on your way to the stairs as you will be able to enter the room behind after the battle then.
Once all the enemies are exhausted, the double door on the 1st floor will open and you will fight the Vandal, along with two skeletons and a succubus. The succubus has a 'charm attack' which will charm members of you force, confusing them, so kill her before she has a chance to attack. Before you can deal any damage to the Vandal you must use Kahn's Elbesem orb attack on him. This will dissipate the Vandal's shield and allow you to kill it. Try not to bunch your force together because the Vandal's spark spell will then be able to hit multiple targerts, with devestating results.

When you defeat the Vandal dawn has broken over Quonus vilalge, the villagers are set free of the spell that turned them into Kyon-shi and you are now free to explore more of the town and mansion. The weapons and items shops are now open and there is a new shop, the accessory shop there. Before you leave though, go through the double doors on the ground floor of the mansion and flip the switch, a golbin named Ratchet will jump out of a hole. He notices the Vandal has been vanquished and rushes outside in his steam armour suit, leaving a gaping hole in the wall of the mansion. You will meet up with him later and will be able to recruit eventually but for now, leave the mansion. In the graveyard, if you saved all the Kyon-shi, Noon will be standing next to the lake, talk to him and he will join your force so as to regain his wizard's pride.

Large Mithril: | On the north-west corner of the road |
Split your force into two for this battle, one of the divisions should head north for the group comprising of 4 Kaiser Guards, 1 Imperial Knt and a Mega Loader while the other should head west for the group of 2 Kaiser Guards, 2 Imperial Knts and 2 Mega Loaders. Once you break through the west forest, Spiriel will arrive and her White Lords will attack the western unit. They will also attack you but will eventually they will head off after Spiriel. In the north-west of the the map there is a piece of ground with a Large Mithril hidden in it. It is hidden on the corner of the path closest to the Great Wall.
Once the first two enemy units have been destroyed, close in on Franz's unit with both your divisions. Make sure they both hit about the same time and destroy his guard, keep Synbios away from Franz though as his strong attack and lance will do serious damage to him.
End of Battle
After the battle you are given a choice of whether to pursue Spiriel immediately or rest at Vagabond ahead. Choose to rest and go to Vagabond as Spiriel will gain no extra ground whether you do or don't.

While exploring Vagabond there are two people to meet, first, if you saved Ratchet from Quonus he'll be waiting next to the big tent. Go talk to him and he'll zoom off again, the next time he meets Synbios he will join the force. Next, inside the tent, there is Justin, a bowknight who was part of Edmund's army. If you approach him, Synbios and Benetram will talk to him and ask why Edmund left him in Vagabond. Justin will refuse to talk further but when you leave Vagabond he will join the force. Finally, in one of the tents there is an old couple and an oddly coloured egg. When you inspect the egg, the old lady offers Synbios a cheese omelet, decline and she offers to sell the egg for 100 gold coins, accept. This is Pen's egg and if you use the egg on the chicken you got from the train, Pen will hatch, but he won't join you until Storich.

The battle is straightforward and easy until you catch up with Spiriel and her army, until then, Synbios just has a few monsters to dispose of. Spiriel and her army will attack and destroy the Elbesem statue and there is no way to save the statue, so don't bother trying. After all the monsters have been defeated, inspect the ruins and stop the thieves from taking the treasure. Spiriel's army will keep its distance so you can do the ruins without being bothered by them, how kind.
Thief map #3
When you attack Spiriel's force, first try to lure out the white lords and megaloaders, killing them to weaken Spiriel's defenses. Be very cautious with Spiriel as she has alot of HP, a high attack and a strong weapon.
End of Battle
Basanda returns after Spiriel's defeat, followed by Galm, the Vandal Julian had been looking for. Julian challenges Galm but is tossed aside by the Vandal into Barrand falls. Synbios' force heads for the suspension bridge in the hopes of spotting Julian and saving him, but awaiting them there is a nasty surprise...

Be aware that Edmund's soldiers ambush your force from the south-west corner of the map, keep some of your stronger trrops here while the others advance forward, and deal with the interlopers accordingly. Be careful crossing the cridge, choose your stronger characters and push them to the front, try not to bunch your force up too much at the eastern end of the bridge as they will become easy picking for the two master mages.
End of Battle
With the two generals defeated, Synbios and Medion meet up again at the suspension bridge. Zero is returned to Synbios and goes with his force back to Aspia. Medion leaves Synbios and heads for Elbesem, where he hopes to find Rogan. But with the recent destruction of the guardian statue and the activity of the Bulzome sect, something is troubling Kahn
Chapter Summary
The Vandal was a strong opponent, but Synbios brought back life to Quonus Village by defeating it. They then defeated General Franz and finally escaped Imperial territory. They defeated the Spiriel army who destroyed the Guardian Statue of Barrand, and were close to Republican territory, but two powerful generals, Edmund and Garzel, stood in their way. With the aid of Medion at the railroad switch, a newfound trust was born, and the alliance formed by that trust helped defeat the two powerful generals. The two armies part, oblivious to the hardship ahead.
